Ingredients:
- 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter
- 1.5 cups (300g) packed dark brown sugar
- 1 large (50g) egg, room temperature
- 2 tsp (10ml) pure vanilla extract
- 2.25 cups (280g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp (5g) baking soda
- 0.5 tsp (3g) fine sea salt
- 1 tsp (2g) flaky sea salt
Instructions:
- Place the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Melt and continue cooking, whisking constantly, until the butter foams, crackles, and develops golden-brown specks. Remove from heat immediately and let cool for 5 minutes.
- In a large bowl, whisk the browned butter and dark brown sugar until smooth. Add the egg and vanilla extract, beating until the mixture is glossy and mahogany-colored.
- Gently fold in the flour, baking soda, and fine salt. Stir until just combined; do not overmix.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough and place 2 inches apart on parchment-lined baking sheets.
- Bake for 9–11 minutes until edges are set and golden-brown, but centers remain soft. Immediately sprinkle with flaky sea salt while hot.
