Ingredients:
- 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
- ½ cup (100g) brown sugar, packed
- 2 tbsp (30ml) pure maple syrup
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp (5ml) vanilla extract
- 2 ¼ cups (280g) all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp (3g) baking powder
- ¼ tsp (1.5g) salt
- 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp (30ml) pure maple syrup
- 2 tsp (10ml) milk or heavy cream
Instructions:
- Cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg, pure maple syrup, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and well-incorporated.
- Gradually stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt on low speed just until the dough comes together.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface, shape it into a flat disc, wrap tightly in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Roll the chilled dough to ¼-inch thickness and use a maple leaf cutter to press firmly into the dough.
- Place the leaves on a parchment-lined sheet, leaving 2 inches between them, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10–12 minutes.
- Let the cookies cool on the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- Whisk together powdered sugar and maple syrup, adding milk or cream one teaspoon at a time until the glaze ribbons slowly off the spoon.
- Dip the top of each cooled cookie into the glaze or drizzle using a fork, and let set for 15 minutes.
