Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup (200g) dark brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) pure Grade A maple syrup
  • 1 tsp (5ml) vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups (280g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp (5g) baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp (3g) salt
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) melted butter
  • 1/2 tsp (2g) flaky sea salt

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and dark brown sugar on medium-high speed for 2-3 minutes until the mixture is pale and fluffy.
  3. Add the room-temperature egg, maple syrup, and vanilla extract; beat on medium speed until the batter is smooth and glossy.
  4. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Turn the mixer to the lowest setting and gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing only until the flour streaks disappear.
  6. Use a cookie scoop to drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are set and slightly golden, while the centers remain soft.
  8. Remove from the oven, immediately brush the tops with melted butter and sprinkle with flaky sea salt; let rest on the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
