Ingredients:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (225g)
- 3/4 cup granulated white sugar (150g)
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar (165g)
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 2 tsp pure vanilla extract (10ml)
- 3 cups all-purpose flour (375g)
- 1 tsp baking soda (5g)
- 1/2 tsp sea salt (3g)
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (340g)
- 12 pinches flaky sea salt
Instructions:
- Beat the softened butter, white sugar, and brown sugar together on medium-high speed for approximately 3 minutes until pale and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, beating well after each addition.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture on low speed, mixing only until flour streaks disappear.
- Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips by hand using a spatula.
- Scoop the dough into tall, rounded balls. Place them on a tray and freeze for at least 2 hours (or refrigerate overnight) to prevent spreading.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Place frozen dough balls 2 inches apart on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until the tops are matte and edges are a deep mahogany gold. Top with a pinch of flaky sea salt if desired.
