Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (225g)
  • 3/4 cup granulated white sugar (150g)
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar (165g)
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract (10ml)
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (375g)
  • 1 tsp baking soda (5g)
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt (3g)
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (340g)
  • 12 pinches flaky sea salt

Instructions:

  1. Beat the softened butter, white sugar, and brown sugar together on medium-high speed for approximately 3 minutes until pale and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, beating well after each addition.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture on low speed, mixing only until flour streaks disappear.
  4. Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips by hand using a spatula.
  5. Scoop the dough into tall, rounded balls. Place them on a tray and freeze for at least 2 hours (or refrigerate overnight) to prevent spreading.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Place frozen dough balls 2 inches apart on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes until the tops are matte and edges are a deep mahogany gold. Top with a pinch of flaky sea salt if desired.
