Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (150g) granulated white sugar
  • 3/4 cup (165g) packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp (5ml) vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups (280g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp (5g) baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp (3g) salt
  • 2 cups (340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 tsp (3g) flaky sea salt

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is pale and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Sift in the flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix on low speed just until no white streaks remain. Gently fold in the chocolate chips by hand using a spatula.
  4. Press the dough evenly into the prepared pan. Bake for 22–25 minutes, removing the pan when the edges are golden brown and the center still has a slight jiggle.
  5. Immediately sprinkle flaky sea salt over the hot surface. Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan for at least 1 hour before lifting and slicing.
