Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (150g) packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large (50g) egg
  • 1 tsp (5ml) vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp (5g) baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp (3g) salt
  • 1 1/2 cups (255g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 24 (approx. 20g) candy eyeballs
  • 2 oz (56g) semi-sweet chocolate, melted

Instructions:

  1. Beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until the mixture looks pale and fluffy.
  2. Add the egg and vanilla extract, beating on medium speed until fully incorporated.
  3. Fold in the flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix only until the white streaks of flour disappear.
  4. Stir in the chocolate chips by hand to ensure even distribution.
  5. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls (about 1 tbsp each).
  6. Place on parchment-lined sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 8–10 minutes until edges are mahogany-gold and centers look slightly underbaked.
  8. Let the cookies rest on the hot pan for 5 minutes.
  9. Press one or two candy eyeballs into the top of each slightly warm cookie.
  10. On cooled cookies, place a chocolate chip in the center and use a piping bag with melted chocolate to draw 8 thin legs.
