  • Bowl for Mixing
  • Steamer
  • Plate or Tray for Steaming
  • Brush
  • Knife or Scissors

Ingredients

  • 1 pound glutinous rice flour
  • ¾ cup water
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • Sesame oil for coating
  • Soy sauce for serving

Instructions

  • Make the Dough:
  • Mix rice flour, water, vegetable oil, and salt in a bowl until it forms a dough.
  • Knead the Dough:
  • Let the dough sit for 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and stretchy.
  • Rest the Dough:
  • Cover the dough with a wet cloth and leave it for 40 minutes.
  • Shape the Rice Cakes:
  • After resting, break the dough into small parts.
  • Roll each part into a long, thin shape, about 1 inch wide.
  • Cut and Flatten:
  • Cut the long shape into small pieces, around half an inch each.
  • Lightly press each piece to flatten it with your hand or the back of a spoon.
  • Sesame Oil Coating:
  • Put the flattened rice cake pieces on a plate or tray, making sure they're not too close.
  • Brush a little sesame oil on top of each rice cake to stop them from sticking.
  • Steam the Rice Cakes:
  • Heat water in a steamer until it boils.
  • Put the plate or tray with the rice cakes in the steamer, cover it, and steam for 30-40 minutes until they look clear and are cooked.
  • Serve Warm:
  • Once done, take the rice cakes out and let them cool a bit.
  • Eat them warm with soy sauce for dipping.
