Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 1 ¾ sticks unsalted butter softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Red and blue gel food coloring

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven 🔥: Set your oven to 350ºF.
  • Mix Butter and Sugar 🧈: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until smooth. Add the eggs and vanilla, and mix until well combined.
  • Combine Dry Ingredients 🥣: Add the flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix until a dough forms.
  • Divide Dough 🍞: Split the dough into three separate bowls.
  • Add Colors 🎨: Mix red food coloring into one portion of dough until you reach your desired shade. Do the same with blue food coloring in another portion.
  • Chill Dough ❄️: Refrigerate all three portions of dough for at least 30 minutes.
  • Roll Out Dough 🍪: On a floured surface, roll out the blue dough into a 12-inch by 12-inch square. Do the same with the plain dough and carefully layer it on top of the blue. Repeat with the red dough, layering it on top of the white.
  • Form a Log 🌀: Gently roll the stacked dough into a log shape. If needed, use your hands to shape it. Chill the log in the fridge for 15-20 minutes.
  • Slice and Bake 🔪: Slice the dough log into 1/2-inch rounds and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spaced 2 inches apart.
  • Bake 🎉: Bake at 350ºF for 15 minutes. Let cool and enjoy!

Notes
