Pro Tip For Perfectly Shaped Patriotic Cookies πͺ
For large cookies that may not bake into perfect circles, try this:
- Shape While Warm: As soon as you take the cookies out of the oven, use a large round cookie cutter to gently push the edges back towards the center. This works best if done immediately and if the cookie edges arenβt overbaked.
- No Cookie Scoop? Use a spoon or the flat edges of a spatula or knife to shape the cookies by pressing the edges back towards the center.
How To Make Red, White, and Blue Cookies πΊπΈ
Prepare the Dough πͺ: Mix your cookie dough as usual.
Divide and Color π¨: Split the dough into three portions. Dye one red, leave one plain, and color the last one blue.

More About the Food Coloring π¨
For the best results, use gel-style food coloring instead of liquid drops. Gel is more potent, so you need less of it to achieve a vibrant red, and it won’t affect the doughβs texture.
Forming the Dough Logs πͺ
- Shape the Dough: Lay a piece of plastic wrap on the counter. Form each dough portion into a 15-inch long log.
- Wrap the Logs: Place the three logs next to each other on the plastic wrap. Wrap them tightly to form one large dough log. This keeps your hands clean and helps create a smooth log.
- Portion and Roll: Unwrap the dough and break off pieces roughly the size of 2 tablespoons. Roll each into a loose ball and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Bake for perfect, festive Patriotic Cookies every time! π
Tips On Adding Sprinkles β¨
- Foil Stars: Add these after the cookies are baked for a festive touch.
- Traditional Sprinkles: Sprinkle them on before baking to ensure they stick to the cookies.
Tools You Will Need For Patriotic Cookies
Β For the Patriotic Cookies dough, you’ll need a mixer π§βπ³, baking sheet πͺ, measuring tools π, and a rubber spatula π΄. To achieve the perfect patriotic look, consider these extras:
- Foil Gold Stars: β¨ If you like the look of the gold stars on my cookies, you can order them online or use star-shaped sprinkles β instead.
- Red Food Coloring: π¨ To get that vibrant red, this brand is highly recommended. You can also get a kit with all the colors, which is handy to have.
